Part of me wanted to keep this song in the bank for a rainy day, but another part was just waiting to see if this was going to drop on an EP. Unfortunately we can’t predict the release schedule of Cozway so we’ll take what we can get.

“Java” is quintessential Cozway. The layering is soft but powerful and there aren’t any offensive segments. If you were to break the song down you would probably be able to categorize the pieces by whether they sounded cultural or 2019. However, when put together, the package becomes extraordinarily cohesive–probably Cozway’s biggest strength.

The artist from Vancouver has been slowly ramping up his releases and each is just as sick as the last. Cozway has a unique sound, which is surprising from an artist with a reasonably small portfolio. Some of that sound stems from his fusion of eastern aboriginal instruments with modern electronic production. As the artist himself states, “I only fucc [with] wood drums.” On this track for Deadbeats Records, he teams up with fellow Canadian, Aaron Bonnema, on a track that stays very true to Cozway’s sound. Truth be told, both BONNEMA and Cozway have similar production tastes, so the collaboration doesn’t deviate from either artists’ main competencies. Rest assured you will hear much more of Cozway on this blog in the future.
