I hope you guys don’t mind a throwback. That being said, this easily could have been released yesterday and I’m not sure we’d be any the wiser.

Collecting songs from very undiscovered artists is a double-edged sword; it’s nice being on the forefront of music discovery but collecting details about the artist is nigh impossible. Topi, the Finnish producer, is prominent enough and has continued on with his music career since “Departure.” WY on the other hand seems to have dropped off the map. He has supposedly released a song called “Guns and Growls” and has worked with WY on one other occasion in the remix of “Too Original” by Major Lazer. Was he just a close friend of Topi and decided not to pursue music or did he change names and end up becoming a superstar? I can’t even speculate.

It’s a shame that we don’t have more from them, because their combined sound is properly hard. “Departure’s” main trick is the ascending tone played throughout. I think that it manages to maintain a sense of building throughout the song that doesn’t cease to be satisfying. The second drop switches it up with a more complex note progression which is always welcome and helps keep the song from feeling repetitive.
